St. James School to Host Open House for Prospective Parents

By Karen Casey Arneson

St. James the Apostle Catholic School, located at 490 South Park Boulevard in Glen Ellyn, hosts its annual Prospective Parents Open House on Sunday, January 25th, from 10:45 AM until noon. Anyone with an interest in learning more about what the school has to offer is invited to attend.

Prospective parents are invited to meet in the St. James Hall meeting room. The event will be hosted by Principal Connee Schwab and St. James Pastor, Father John Ouper. Parents of current students will be on-hand to guide tours of the school and answer questions about their experience with St. James. Enrollment materials will be available for interested parents.

Teachers from every grade level will be present to answer specific questions. St. James teachers are state-certified. Over a third of the teachers have attained their Masters degrees and all are dedicated to enhancing their skills through continuing education.

This open house kicks-off the schools participation in the diocese-wide celebration of Catholic Schools Week. The Diocese of Joliet is celebrating this week from January 25-30, and this year’s theme is “Catholic Schools Celebrate Service.”

As part of the Diocese as well as part of the community, St. James is committed not only to academic excellence, but also to providing students with service opportunities. “Ripples of Faith” is a school-wide service program aimed at involving students in age-appropriate activities to foster community involvement. Past service opportunities have included junior high students serving through the DuPage PADS program – a program which provides food and shelter to the homeless of DuPage County. Students have organized school-wide food drives for the Glen Ellyn Food Pantry. It is believed that in providing such opportunities, students develop hearts to positively impact the world around them.
